Implied – The soul needs redeeming.
Denied – Wealth, power, learning, none can redeem.
Supplied — a ransom by Jesus.
Applied — by the Spirit to our actual deliverance.
Charles Spurgeon said, “Redemption is our chief blessing–nothing better can be
said of you than this, “Ye are bought with a price.”… To every man of whom this may
be said, it is the best news he ever heard. An angel sent from heaven could not bring
to any man or woman here a more delightful message than this.”
The Puritan named Thomas Watson said this.
“Great was the work of creation, but greater the work of redemption.
It cost more to redeem us than to make us. In the one, there was but the speaking
of a word. In the other, there was shedding blood. ”
We’re in debt because of our sin
Therefore a payment or a ransom must be made on our behalf
We cannot pay our own debt of sin because we are sinners
God cannot forgive sins without the debt being paid
Only Jesus the God-Man could pay the debt of sin.
He paid a debt He did not owe, I owed a debt I could not pay
Jesus paid it all
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe,
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow
