It’s Love At First Bite Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of our sermon series, “Eat This Book: At First Bite.” In this session, we explore the poignant narrative of Genesis 4—the story of Cain and Abel. This story introduces us to significant biblical firsts, such as the first mention of sin, the first murder, and the concept of personal responsibility. We’ll delve into the repercussions of Cain’s actions and the profound lessons they hold for us today about sin’s deceit and the importance of offering what is right in God’s eyes. Join us as we uncover the depths of these early biblical events and their implications for our understanding of justice, accountability, and mercy.

Genesis 4:2 “…Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
Genesis 4:3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering
of the fruit of the ground to the Lord.
Genesis 4:4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the
Lord respected Abel and his offering,
Genesis 4:5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry,
and his countenance fell.
Genesis 4:6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your
countenance fallen?
Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin
lies at the door. And its desire is [d]for you, but you should rule over it.”
Genesis 4:8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they
were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
Genesis 4:9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not
know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Genesis 4:10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood
cries out to Me from the ground.

Rule #13: Recognize the Law of First Mention in the Bible which means that the
first time an idea or word is introduced in the Bible is important.

I. THE FIRST MENTION OF THE WORD SIN IN SCRIPTURE.

Genesis 3:21 Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and
clothed them.

The Cain Syndrome
Lord, I won’t give you what you want, I’ll give you what I want.

Genesis 4:6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your
countenance fallen?

Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted?
Genesis 4:7 (AMP) If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and
pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted?
Genesis 4:7 (VOICE) Don’t you know that as long as you do what is right, then I
accept you?

Genesis 4:7 “…. And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door.

Who is it knocks so loud?”
“A lonely little sin.”
“Slip through,” I answered.
And soon all hell was in.

Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

Genesis 4:7 …And its desrie is for you, but you should rule over it.”

John Owen said, “Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you.”

II. THE FIRST MURDER IN THE BIBLE.
Genesis 4:8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they
were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
John 10:10 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…
John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to
do. He was a murderer from the beginning …”

Now in the United States, there are 19 states that have no restrictions on abortion
Up until 15 minutes before birthing, you can destroy the unborn in 19 states.
14 states have intense restrictions where it is very hard to get an abortion
Missouri is one of them
17 states are in the middle, they have some restrictions but abortion is accessible.
So 36 states in the union you can get an abortion
There is no state that bans abortion completely

Joe Biden said, “The supreme was wrong. Abortion should be a constitutional right in the
federal constitution, a federal right. And it shouldn’t matter where in America you
live. This isn’t about states rights, it’s about women’s rights.”

It’s sick world when one family member gets to decide whether another family
member gets to live or die.

When sex is the God we worship, children are the demonic sacrifice we make.

Proverbs 8:36 But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate
me love death.

Matthew 23:35 That on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from
the blood of righteous Abel …”
1 John 3:12 “…Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother.and why
did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous
1 John 3:13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.

Genesis 4:9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do
not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”

I John 3:15, “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer.”

To quote Clint Eastwood:
It’s a heck of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.

III. THE FIRST MENTION OF BLOOD IN THE BIBLE.
Genesis 4:10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood
cries out to Me from the ground.

Romans 3:15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
Romans 3:16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
Romans 3:17 And the way of peace have they not known:
Romans 3:18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Sin can always justifies itself and we can justify anything we do, even murder.
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
Proverbs 26:12 Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a
fool than for him.

Numbers 32:23 “… Be sure your sin will find you out.

James 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy.

1 Corinthians 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which
the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You
shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
Genesis 3:2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees
of the garden;
Genesis 3:3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said,
‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
Genesis 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

Rule #13: Recognize the Law of First Mention in the Bible which means that the
first time an idea or word is introduced in the Bible is important.

You can’t really understand what is going on now, unless you understand what
went on before.

I. THE FIRST MENTION OF THE DEVIL IN SCRIPTURE.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which
the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You
shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Revelation 12:7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with
the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought,
Revelation 12:8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven
any longer.
Revelation 12:9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the
Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his
angels were cast out with him.

II. THE FIRST EXAMPLE OF A LIE IN SCRIPTURE.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field …”
Genesis 3:1 (WoS) Now the snake was the top of the animal cunning league,
undisputed king of sly among all God’s creative work. ”

Genesis 3:1 “… And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat
of every tree of the garden’?”

Genesis 2:16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the
garden you may freely eat.
Genesis 2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for
in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

F. LaGard Smith (quote)
“When I was young , my father came home one night to relate a bizarre experience
Over several weeks he had studied the Bible with a man in our town who had
shown interest in learning more about Christianity. With patience Dad had
carefully gone over a variety of doctrinal beliefs and shown the man biblical
passages which gave rise to those beliefs.
Dad went back to visit the man, not sure of what his reception would be.
The man was surprisingly friendly, but said that there was no need to discuss
any further the same doctrine they had discussed the week before. Dad asked
if the man now understood that the teaching was biblical, but the man said,
‘No, those passages aren’t in my Bible.’
Curious, Dad asked if he meant that they were there, but that he simply had
a different understanding of them. Again the man replied, ‘No, they’re not in
my Bible.’
Perhaps the man just couldn’t locate the right passage. Dad thought. Dad took
the man’s Bible to open it to the proper passage. What Dad saw, much to his
amazement, was that the passage was in fact not there. The man had taken
a pair of scissors and literally cut it out of his Bible.”

Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take
from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I
command you.

The devil uses addition, subtraction, and rejection.

Genesis 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened,
and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Genesis 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was
pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit
and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to
do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because
there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources,
for he is a liar and the father of it.

III. THE FIRST MENTION OF LOVE IN THE BIBLE.
Genesis 22:1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham,
and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Genesis 22:2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you
love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of
the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

Matthew 10:37 “…. He who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

A bell’s not a bell ’til you ring it
A song’s not a song ’til you sing it
Love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay
Love isn’t love until you give it away

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Rule #5 All of the Bible is about Jesus.

Johm 5:46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.

IV. THE FIRST MENTION OF WORSHIP IN THE BIBLE.
Genesis 22:5 Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy
and I will go over there and worship and then return to you.”

* There was no assembly of people gathered in some building, yet Abraham
called it worship.
* There was no music, no singing, no praise team, no choir, no soloist.
* There was no money given.
* There was no prayer offered.

2 Samuel 24:24 “… I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have
cost me nothing.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your
reasonable service.

lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son
of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Colossians 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ …”

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,
He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
through His Spirit who dwells in you.

No longer me but Thee.
Resurrection power,
Fill me this hour,
Jesus be Jesus in me.

II. OUR PROTECTION: HID WITH CHRIST.
Colossians 3:3 “… and your life is hid with Christ in God.

III. OUR PRACTICE: SEEK THOSE THINGS ABOVE.

the right hand of God.

Everything we seek is there in heaven, because Jesus is there.

Ephesians 2:6 And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly
places in Christ Jesus,

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the
things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the

Luke 12:15 (PHILLIPS) For a man’s real life in no way depends upon the number
of his possessions.”

Matthew 6:19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, …”

Elizabeth Elliot (Quote)
Elizabeth Elliot said, “Heaven is not here, it’s there! If we were given all we
wanted here, our hearts would settle for this world rather than the next.”

V. OUR PROVISION: CHRIST IS OUR LIFE.
Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear
with Him in glory.

Shatner said, “GET A LIFE, will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it’s just a
TV show! I mean, look at you, look at the way you’re dressed! You’ve turned an
enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a COLOSSAL WASTE
OF TIME!”

One film fanatic said, “Film is a substitute for life. Film is a form of living. As a
film lover you have to accept that— that is normal for you. It’s not pathological.”

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

John 14:3 “… I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive
you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.
