Ecclesiastes 6:1 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common
among men:
Ecclesiastes 6:2 A man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor, so that
he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires; yet God does not give him power to
eat of it, but a foreigner consumes it. This is vanity, and it is an evil affliction.
Ecclesiastes 6:3 If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that
the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or indeed
he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he–
Ecclesiastes 6:4 for it comes in vanity and departs in darkness, and its name is
covered with darkness.
Ecclesiastes 6:5 Though it has not seen the sun or known anything this has more
rest than that man,
Ecclesiastes 6:6 even if he lives a thousand years twice—but has not seen goodness.
Do not all go to one place?
Ecclesiastes 6:7 All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the soul is not satisfied.

Exodus 20:17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house . . . nor anything that is your
neighbor’s.

I) THE SHORTAGE OF SATISFACTION IS EVERYWHERE.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver;
Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. this also is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 1:8 … The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor the ear filled with
hearing.

1 Kings 10:23 So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and
wisdom.

Song lyrics
I can’t get no satisfaction though I’ve tried and I’ve tried

Frederic Seaman book “The Last Days Of John Lennon” (quote)
John and Yoko appeared to be compulsive shoppers, like kleptomanics who paid.
Most of what they bought was neither needed nor ever used.
Clothes, antiques, art, stereo equipment, eletronic gadgets, pieces of furniture —
all were delivered, stored away, and promptly forgotten. It never ceased to
amaze me that the man who had penned the classic verse, “Imagine no
possessions” had become a slave to them. The only real value of many of
these items was the mere fact they were owned by John Lennon.”

II) THE SEARCH FOR SATISFACTION IS A VAIN PURSUIT.
Ecclesiates 6:3 If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that
the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or indeed
he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he—
Ecclesiates 6:6 Even if he lives a thousand years twice—but has not seen goodness.

The Law of the Itch: No one ever made an itch go away by getting really good
at scratching.
The law of satisfaction: No one has ever made the satisfaction itch go away
by getting really good at scratching.

Fate of Man lyrics
He’s worked all his life to get things the way he wants them.
He comes here against his will and he goes away disappointed.

III) THE SOURCE OF SATISFACTION IS GOD HIMSELF.
Ecclesiastes 6:2 A man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor, so that
he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires; yet God does not give him power to
eat of it,..”

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down
from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Ecclesiastes 6:2 … yet God does not give him power to eat of it, …

Ecclesiastes 6:7 All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the soul is not satisfied.

Ecclesiastes 6:9 (NLT) Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you
don’t have.

IV) THE SECRET OF SATISFACTION IS CONTENTMENT.
Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever
state I am, to be content:
Philippians 4:12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound.
Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry,
both to abound and to suffer need.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

1) THE CONTENTMENT OF THE GODLY.
1 Timothy 6:6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can
carry nothing out.
1 Timothy 6:8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

Psalm 23:1 (NLT) The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
Psalm 23:1 (MSG) God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.
Psalm 23:1 (GW) The Lord is my shepherd.I am never in need.

1 Timothy 6:8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest
You.”

The testing ground is simply this: Is God enough?
Because when this life is over, He is all we will have.
If God is not enough then nothing will ever be enough.

Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our
salvation!
