Luke 24:27 (ESV) And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to
them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private
interpretation,
2 Peter 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke
as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth
not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Acts 8:30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said,
Do you understand what you are reading?
Acts 8:31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip
to come up and sit with him.

Rule #1: Unless we’ve been born again we cannot understand the Word of God
Rule #2: All the spiritual disciplines of Bible study, Prayer, and Worship go through
Meditation that honors God.
Rule #3: We must read our Bible prayerfully
Through His Word, God talks to us, through prayer we talk to God,
Rule #4 We are to take God Word, His every Word, as Food for living.
Rule #5: All of the Bible is about Jesus
Rule #6: The Bible not only has to be Read, It has to be Interpreted

Luke 24:27 (ESV) And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to
them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

I didn’t have potatoes,
so I substituted rice.
I didn’t have paprika,
so I used another spice.

I didn’t have tomato sauce,
so I used tomato paste.
A whole can not a half can –
I don’t believe in waste.

My friend gave me the recipe –
she said you couldn’t beat it.
There must be something wrong with her,
I couldn’t even eat it.

Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from
it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
Revelation 22:18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of
this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are
written in this book;
Revelation 22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy,
God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the
things which are written in this book.

I. The Bible not only has to be Read, It has to be Interpreted,
So we don’t want to interpret it wrong.
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private
interpretation,
2 Peter 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke
as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will
be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even
denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

“Unity describes itself as having no particular creed, set dogma, or required ritual.
It maintains that there is good in every approach to God and holds that one should
focus on the potential good in all—that the essence of every human is divine regardless
of current behavior.”
Unity teaches the divinity of Jesus and of all human beings.
Unity considers Jesus an “elder brother” or “wayshower”

2 Peter 2:1 “… denying the Lord who bought them, …”

2 Peter 2:2 (ESV) And many will follow their sensuality …”
The word “sensuality” refers to uninhibited sexual indulgence without shame and
without concern for what others think or how they may be affected.

J.I. Packer said, “Heretics are those preach tolerance of sins, Christians are those
who preach repentance of sin.”

2 Peter 2:2 (ESV) “… and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed

2 Peter 2:1 “…. and bring on themselves swift destruction.

II. The Bible not only has to be Read, It has to be Interpreted
because if it isn’t interpreted, then it can’t be put into action.
Acts 8:30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said,
Do you understand what you are reading?
Acts 8:31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip
to come up and sit with him.

Somebody has to decide what it means, which is the interpretation of the text.
Now if it isn’t interpreted, then it can’t be put into action.

A Bible passage may have many applications but it always has one intended meaning.

Acts 8:31 “… And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.
Acts 8:32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this: “He was led as a
sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened
not His mouth.
Acts 8:33 In His humiliation His justice was taken away, and who will declare His
generation? For His life is taken from the earth.”
Acts 8:34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the
prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?”
Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached
Jesus to him.
Acts 8:36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch
said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?”
Acts 8:37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.”
And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
Acts 8:38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch
went down into the water, and he baptized him.

Isaiah 35:8 A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the Highway
of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever
walks the road, although a fool, shall not go astray.
Isaiah 35:9 No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it;
It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there,
